Privacy Policy for the Browser4 Extension
This policy explains what information the Browser4 Extension processes, how it is used, and the choices you have. It applies to the Browser4 Extension distributed through the Chrome Web Store.
1. Overview
The Browser4 Extension ("the Extension") gives you control of a real browser so that AI agents and automation workflows can browse, automate, extract, and analyze the web on your behalf. We are committed to transparency about how the Extension handles information.
The Extension processes data on your device and does not upload your tasks, page content, credentials, or settings to any server. The only information that may be transmitted is limited, non-identifying usage statistics, described in Section 6. This policy describes how the Extension handles information and the choices you have.
The Extension is provided by 武汉市翘曲速率信息科技有限公司 (Wuhan Qiaoqu Sulu Information Technology Co., Ltd.), located in the East Lake High-tech Development Zone, Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
2. Information We Process
2.1 Information you provide
When you use the Extension, you may provide:
- URLs, tasks, prompts, and automation instructions you create;
- Form values, text, or file selections you enter as part of a task you initiate;
- Account credentials you intentionally enter so the Extension can complete a login or authenticated workflow you requested.
2.2 Content you direct the Extension to process
The Extension processes the content of web pages that you direct it to visit, in order to complete your task (for example, reading a product page, filling a form, or extracting structured data). This processing is performed on your behalf and at your direction.
2.3 Statistical information
The Extension may collect limited, aggregate statistics about how it is used, such as feature usage counts, the Extension version, and anonymous performance or error rates. These statistics are used to improve the product. They never include your API keys, passwords, account credentials, page content, or any other sensitive or personal information. All other data processed by the Extension remains on your device.
2.4 Account information
The Extension does not require you to log in and does not provide account or sync features. It does not collect or upload account, profile, or entitlement information.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above only for the following local purposes:
- To operate the Extension and execute the tasks you initiate;
- To save your settings and task state between sessions;
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- To comply with legal obligations and protect the security of our services.
Because the Extension processes data locally, none of the information described above is transmitted to us for these purposes. We do not sell your personal information and we do not use content processed by the Extension to serve advertising.
4. Permissions
The Extension requests only the browser permissions needed to give AI agents control of a real browser. Depending on the features you use, these may include:
- Tabs — to read and control the tabs your agent works with;
- Storage — to save your settings and tasks locally on your device;
- Scripting and active tab — to run automation on the page you direct the Extension to act on;
- Host permissions — for the sites you choose to automate, so the agent can navigate and interact with them at your direction;
- Downloads — to save files and exported data you request;
- Web navigation and alarms — to track progress and run scheduled or long-running tasks;
- Notifications — to alert you when a task completes.
These permissions are used only to fulfill automation tasks that you initiate, and never to collect data from pages you have not asked the Extension to process. All data handled through these permissions stays on your device, except for the aggregate statistics described in Section 6.
5. Local Processing and Storage
The Extension processes your tasks locally on your device. All settings, task definitions, and cached data are stored locally using the browser's storage APIs. No user data other than the limited aggregate statistics described in Section 6 is transmitted to Browser4 or to any third party. You can clear this data at any time through your browser settings, and uninstalling the Extension removes the data stored by it.
Because the Extension can handle sensitive information (such as credentials or personal data on the pages you process), we recommend that you only provide information needed for your task and avoid storing long-lived secrets in saved tasks.
6. Statistics and Data Uploads
All user data — tasks, prompts, page content, credentials, and settings — is processed locally and is never uploaded to any server. The only information the Extension may transmit is limited, aggregate usage statistics, such as:
- Feature usage counts and aggregate interaction patterns;
- The Extension version and browser version;
- Anonymous performance and error rates.
These statistics are collected solely to improve the Extension. They never include your API keys, passwords, account credentials, page content, personal identifiers, or any other sensitive information, and they are not sold or shared for advertising purposes. If optional cloud-connected features are introduced in the future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent before any such processing.
7. Sharing and Disclosure
Because the Extension keeps data on your device, there is no centralized store of user data to disclose. We do not disclose your personal information except:
- With your consent;
- When required by law, regulation, or legal process;
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you where practicable.
8. Data Retention and Deletion
Local data is retained until you clear it or uninstall the Extension. Because the Extension does not upload data, there are no server-side copies to delete. You can remove all data at any time by clearing browser storage for the Extension or by uninstalling it.
9. Security
Because the Extension processes data locally and does not transmit it to any server, there is no remote repository of your data that could be exposed. We still follow security best practices in the Extension's code and dependencies, and we respond promptly to any identified risks or vulnerabilities.
10. Children's Privacy
The Extension is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide notice through the Extension or the browser4.io website. Continued use of the Extension after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions about this policy or about how the Extension handles your information, you can email us at ivincent.zhang@gmail.com or galaxyeye@live.cn, reach us through the public channels on browser4.io, or by opening an issue in the official project repository at github.com/platonai/browser4. We will respond to privacy inquiries within 30 days.
